The Timmins Airport reopened late Saturday morning after it was closed due to a suspicious item found during a baggage screening process.

Authorities evacuated and closed the Timmins Airport Saturday morning after a suspicious item was found during a standard baggage screening process.

Airport staff discovered the item at around 4:30 a.m., the Timmins Police Service said in a press release.

All morning flights departing from the airport have been cancelled. It is recommended that travellers check with their individual airline to determine the status of any flight.  

The Timmins Police said it deems those measures necessary as part of our public safety protocols. There is no active threat to public safety as this incident is contained to the airport terminal, police said. The matter remains under police investigation?.
