The Timmins Police Service is wrapping up an investigation into a frightening incident that occurred in the Northern Ontario city on Wednesday.

Police allege that on the evening of July 20, a driver deliberately drove her vehicle into a cyclist, knocking her to the ground, before jumping out of the car to continue the assault in person.

In a news release, the police service reported the female driver, who was accompanied by a male passenger, followed the female cyclist for "a considerable distance" before ramming her with their car and knocking her to the ground.

"An altercation followed the collision and eventually ended when the driver and passenger fled the scene in the vehicle," Timmins police said.

The cyclist suffered minor injuries.

A 20-year-old woman from Timmins faces a charge of assault with a weapon, a charge of dangerous driving, and a charge of failing to remain at the scene of a collision. She also faces three counts of breaching a peace bond.

A 32-year-old man is facing a charge of assault with a weapon.

They're to appear in court on Aug. 2.
