NORTH BAY — North Bay OPP report that at 4 p.m. Nov. 8, they got a call that a tractor-trailer had failed to stop for the red lights of a stopped school bus on Highway 11 north.
Officers found the tractor-trailer and the driver was charged with "Fail to Stop for a School Bus."
From Nov. 4 to 15, the North Bay Detachment of the OPP conducted a focused patrol concentrating on vehicles not stopping for school bus lights.
"Officers logged hours of patrol on school bus routes during that time and received only one complaint," said Const. Shona Camirand.
The Highway Traffic Act states that motorists traveling in both directions must stop for a stopped school bus that has its overhead red signal lights flashing. Drivers are not to proceed until the lights on the school bus have stopped flashing. Penalties include fines from $400 to $4,000 and six demerit points upon conviction. A reminder that the stop arm on the school bus does not have to be extended.
