Vehicle catches fire after fatal crash with snowmobile in Huntsville area

Another snowmobile death to report, even as police say how worried they are about the increasing death toll.

Wednesday evening just after 7 p.m. Huntsville OPP were called after a snowmobile and a Subaru were involved in a head-on crash on West Browns Road near Timber Bay Road, causing the Subaru to burst into flames.  

The driver of the snowmobile, a 60 year-old man from Huntsville was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries. 

A 53 year-old female from Huntsville, driver of the Subaru was taken to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision investigators along with along with Muskoka EMS and Huntsville Fire helped at the scene.  

The road remained closed for about six hours to allow them to complete their investigation.

The victim’s name will not be released until next of kin have been notified and the investigation is continuing into the cause of the crash.
