KENORA, Ont. - A 28-year-old man might consider himself lucky after Ontario Provincial Police stopped him while he was operating a boat on Lake of the Woods.

OPP responded early Friday evening to a report of a boat being operated at high speed on Keewatin Bay.

Officers using a police vessel caught up to the suspect boat near the Keewatin Bridge and noticed that it had been damaged.

While the police  were still at the scene, the boat sank.

The driver, the only occupant, was not injured.

However, police charged the Kenora man for operating a vessel while impaired.

OPP have not indicated whether they were able to determine what caused the damage to the boat.
