Retired Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer Philip Nowiski, 55, was killed in an ATV collision on Christmas Eve outside Elliot Lake.

OPP Community Safety officer Phil Young said the death is a “shock to all of us.”

“Phil retired in January of this year with 32 years of service,” Young said. “He was a long-time resident of Elliot Lake and a great guy.”

Nowiski leaves behind a wife and a daughter, Young added.

The incident occurred at about 8 p.m. Thursday in a remote location near Gullbeak Lake just outside Elliot Lake, OPP reported.

OPP and the Algoma Paramedic Services responded to the collision which is still under investigation under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
