Whew! Close call. Child rescued from hot, locked car

It's still happening despite numerous deaths and warnings.

In the peak heat of yesterday afternoon, Temiskaming OPP officers and the Haileybury Fire Department got a call about a small child locked in a vehicle in Temiskaming Shores. 

When police arrived they were told that the child had been in the vehicle for approximately 20 minutes. 

Officers broke the car window and the child was immediately rescued from the extreme heat.

The child received non-life threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital by the Temiskaming Ambulance Services.

The child's mother, a 20-year-old female was arrested and charged with:

  • Fail to provide necessaries of life - child or spouse, 

She was released by way of Promise to Appear. She is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 24, in Haileybury.
