BLIND RIVER — Blind River’s extended nomination period in a bid to find someone to fill a vacant seat on council failed to get anyone to apply.

The nomination deadline was extended from Aug. 19 to Aug. 24 after only five of the council seats were filled, leaving one councillor seat empty.

“Unfortunately, we did not receive any new nominations by the cut-off date,” said CAO-Clerk Katie Scott. “As per the Elections Act, once this new term of council takes office, they will have the ability to appoint in a manner they choose.

Mayor Sally Hagman was acclaimed for a second term, joined by repeat councillors acclaimed for the upcoming term Jim Dunbar, Jennifer Posteraro, Betty Ann Dunbar and Paula Summers, while newcomer Joe Connell is a newly acclaimed council member, leaving the one seat open for nominations.
