OTTAWA — The CP Women's Open is making its highly anticipated return this week in Canada's capital.

The event did not take place in 2020 and 2021 due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year's event features Canadian superstar Brooke Henderson, fresh off her second major victory at the 2022 Evian Championship. The 2022 CP Women's Open kicks off on Thursday, Aug. 25 and runs until Aug. 28 at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club, which hosted the event in 2008 and again in 2017.

The Smiths Falls, Ont. native won the CP Women's Open back in 2018 and is inspiring a new generation of Canadian female golfers.

Reid, 14, from Prince Edward Island, came to Ottawa to catch a glimpse of the golf superstar.

"It makes me see how you can go with it (golf) and the opportunities that are out there," she said, adding she plans to head to the United States to play golf in college or university.

The tournament's director, Ryan Paul, told CityNews Ottawa earlier this month that Henderson's play this season, including her win at the Evian Championship, has many golf fans excited.

"The fans are going to come out in bunches," he said. "We are estimating around 75,000 people through the gate throughout the week and that's compared to 55,000 in 2017 which was our highest at the time."
