The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario has risen by 20 since yesterday, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 74.

So far, 4,470 people have tested negative for the virus, with 580 still under investigation. Five people have recovered — this number has remained steady for several days.

Of the 20 new cases, details are pending for five of them, meaning the gender, age and transmission method is still being investigated.

Of the remaining 15 cases for which information is known, nine are female and six are male. Six are people in their 20s, four of them female. Two are in their 40s.

One person, a woman, is in her 50s. Two women and a man in their 60s are positive, as are a man and woman in their 70s. The final positive case is a man in his 80s, who is hospitalized.

All other people with the virus are self-isolating.

As for where these positive cases are, 17 are in the Greater Toronto Area, including Toronto, York and Peel regions. There is one case in Ottawa, one in Niagara and one in Waterloo.

In terms of transmission, 12 of the cases for which information is available picked up the virus while travelling, most into the U.S., but one travelled to the U.K. while two had travelled to Egypt.
