After many years of lugging all sorts of camera gear, instamatics, Polaroids and various film and digital SLRs, I still see and hear the same things repeated, which I think proves we are creatures of habit.

With the holiday season almost behind us and the bills starting to chase us, we can get back to normal once again. I had an opportunity to play, and I mean play, and have fun with another camera these past few weeks.

A common expression used by many of us from time to time is, of course, “they don’t make them like they use to.” Well, it seems this is not the case with Nikon.

“They shot a movie once, in my hometown Everybody was in it, from miles around.” These lyrics from a song by the Tragically hip, come to me every year at this time.

Recently, I received my monthly copy of the National Press Photographer’s Association (NPPA) magazine, “News Photographer”, and the cover story was about how the Chicago Sun-Times decided to “purge” 28 full-time photojournalists.

It’s that time of year again, when we can finally shed all the winter clothing we have been covered in, for what seems forever. The good thing is that with all that nice weather, comes all sorts of nice things to take pics of out and about our city.

It happens to the best of us — we take a shot at some event or function, and the image you have is nothing shy of absolute yuk.

I ended the year on a positive note, and thanks to someone who knows all too well I will never say no to any camera looking for a new home, I ended up inheriting a couple just before the year’s end.

I, like so many of you out there, love to have stuff ... all kinds of stuff. Sometimes I have stuff for my stuff that helps me to determine how to use my stuff.

It’s not the first time while at an event or function of some sort, that someone with good intentions informs me that my flash didn’t fire. Most often, I would reply simply with thank you and leave it at that.
