Ian Symington is the Conservative Party candidate in Sudbury in the 2021 federal election.

Ian Symington, the Conservative candidate in Sudbury, says a Tory government would do a better job of protecting workers.

In a news release, Symington said PC Leader Erin O’Toole has pledged that EI benefits for people unable to work while battling life-threatening diseases will not run out after 26 weeks.

“I agree wholeheartedly,” said Symington. “I am a family physician and it is a very difficult situation when a family member is seriously ill. If there are financial worries, it just adds to the stressful burden families do not need.“

With a Conservative government, workers can feel confident that they can take sick leave when they need  to support their recovery, the candidate said.

“A healthy economy is built with healthy workers and extending employment insurance coverage to 52 weeks for the seriously ill will help to provide a more secure future for workers in Sudbury.”
