City Community Development general manager Steve Jacques is leaving the city to take a leadership role with the Region of Peel.
The City of Greater Sudbury announced the news in a media release on Wednesday.
Jacques’ last day with the city will be Aug. 9.
“Steve has made important contributions to the City of Greater Sudbury’s success during the five years he spent with us,” City of Greater Sudbury CAO Ed Archer said in a media release.
“On behalf of the corporation, I thank him for his collaboration and leadership. I wish him every success in his new role as Commissioner of Human Services with the Region of Peel.”
An interim general manager of Community Development will be in place soon, according to the city, and a process to hire a permanent replacement will follow “a review of the role and its responsibilities.”
When Jacques was hired in 2019, the Community Development general manager position included a portfolio of community-related services, including long-term care, transit, social, leisure, citizen and children services.
Jacques previously worked as Regional Planning and Growth Management director for the Region of Peel.
In this week’s media release, the city highlighted several significant Community Development initiatives during Jacques’ tenure.
- City response to encampments, which included coordinating with community groups and leveraging provincial funds to support service efforts.
- GOVA Transit introduced improvements that significantly increased ridership to record-setting levels as part of the Transit Action Plan.
- The bed redevelopment and expansion of Pioneer Manor, which is ongoing.
- Work to advance social housing, including the transitional housing complex currently under construction on Lorraine Street.
