Signoretti: Why I’m seeking re-election to Ward 1

‘I will continue to apply the same common sense solutions and professional experience operating a small business in the finance sector to bring a realistic perspective to how we move forward and grow our city’

Mark Signoretti is seeking re-election to the Greater Sudbury city council seat for Ward 1.

I care deeply about Ward 1. It has been an integral part of my life for many years now. I continue to stand up for citizens to defend their tax dollars and ensure that we get a fair share for our community.

I have taken a strong stance against the mayor and management when they have gone down the path of large and clearly misguided projects.  I was on the right side of this issue. The costs spiralled out of control and in the end, all of council came to realize that, despite all the hype, the projects were simply not supportable.

I know I took some criticism for questioning the projects and objecting to how they were moving forward, but in the end, I was on the side of the taxpayers’ interests in my ward – and the city.

But I’d also like to speak directly to the citizens in Ward 1 and how I’ve worked to make projects that matter happen.

Over the past few years, I’ve been privileged to work closely with the citizens of Ward 1. Together we have realized numerous community improvements, including the Delki Dozzi splash pad and cycling path, a new play structure at the Bouchard tot lot, and securing financing for new projects such as the Robinson outdoor rink.

I’ve enjoyed collaborating with the Ward 1 Community Action Network and have done my best to address constituent concerns with the personal touch of a phone call or in-person visit.

The City of Greater Sudbury is facing an interesting and challenging time. We are at a crossroads. As I have gone door to door speaking with constituents, I have heard that many people are concerned about the city’s finances, about creating economic development in the community, and about the state of the city’s infrastructure.

I will continue to apply the same common sense solutions and professional experience operating a small business in the finance sector to bring a realistic perspective to how we move forward and grow our city.

My priorities include advocating for sensible economic development, transparent government, and efficient spending of taxpayer resources. I believe working within these priorities on the next council will help ensure constituents' concerns and needs are being met in a responsible way. And I will always be there for Ward 1 residents.

I’d like to hear from constituents directly. I’m open to discuss my experiences on council, my platform for the election, and my vision for the future of our city. Please feel free to contact me at 705-690-9606 or at [email protected].

I am asking for your continued support to move forward and as your Ward 1 representative. I will continue to work to create a better community and look after your hard-earned tax dollars.

A reminder that online voting begins Oct. 14 and continues to Election Day on Oct. 24. Advanced polling stations are also available Oct. 15 and Oct. 22. Instructions are available on the city website. Please ensure you are on the voters’ list and feel free to contact me if you need any assistance.
