The man charged with second-degree murder in the July 1, 2020 death at a home on Ferndale Avenue has committed to trial by judge and jury.

Denis Richer, 48, is charged with the second-degree murder of a 45-year-old man, who died in hospital on July 12.

On July 1, Greater Sudbury Police responded to an early morning call about a disturbance at the Ferndale home.

Officers had at first determined a 25-year-old man had been responsible for the injuries to the victim, however, further investigation revealed the victim had also been assaulted by Richer, which resulted in the fatal injuries.

Richer had been charged with attempted murder and driving while under suspension, but when the victim died, the charge was upgraded to second-degree murder.

Richer is represented by defence lawyer Glen Sandberg.

The matter will return to assignment court on Feb. 16.
