Van Drunen is charged with impaired driving after he was stopped on Municipal Road 80 on Nov. 13 last year. He was off duty when he was pulled over at 11 a.m. He was hired by Greater Sudbury Police in April 2020.

“Pursuant to section 83(15) of the Police Services Act (PSA), the regional counsel of the Office of the Director of Crown Operations has requested a stay of the Police Services Act proceedings until the completion of the Criminal Code matter, said GSPS on its website. The request was granted by the hearing officer (Ret.) Superintendent Peter Lennox.”

Van Drunen made his first court appearance on Jan. 20.

Under the Police Service Act of Ontario, the officer has been suspended from duty with pay.

Van Drunen may be subject to additional charges under the Police Service Act.
