Trial dates have now been confirmed in the sexual assault allegations against a Sudbury lawyer.
Adam Castonguay, 28, is charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm and sexual assault - chokes, suffocates or strangles, after what police called a “violent” incident took place in December 2020. He is a partner at Conroy Scott LLP.
The trial is scheduled for two days in January (17 and 18), 2022, as well as two days in February (7 and 8), 2022. A trial confirmation hearing is scheduled for Dec. 23, 2021 and it will return to court on Jan. 10 for readiness court.
Greater Sudbury Police were called in December last year to investigate the alleged sexual assault. Castonguay was charged in January this year.
A publication ban prevents any information that might identify the victim from being published.
Assault and forcible confinement charges against Castonguay from a different victim were dropped in early June this year after he agreed to enter into a common-law peace bond with the complainant.
Conditions of the peace bond include that Castonguay have no contact with the female complainant, stay away from her place of work, and keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
He also pledged $500, no deposit, in connection with the peace bond.
Later in June, Castonguay was subject to a two-day Law Society tribunal hearing to decide whether his licence would be suspended during the criminal proceedings. A three-person panel decided to let Castonguay continue practising, but put further restrictions on his work schedule.
