The 1983 movie 'A Christmas Story', directed by John McHenry, comes to life at the Sudbury Theatre Centre Dec. 7 - 23.

Nine-year-old Ralphie Parker has high hopes of finding the gift of his dreams under the tree Christmas morning.

He drops multiple hints but to no avail; his parents remain unmoveable. What's Ralphie to do? Will Santa help?

Released in 1983, just before American Thanksgiving, A Christmas Story was a bit of a flop. But after it went to video and began playing on TV during the holidays, it became, by all rights, a holiday classic.

Heck, some stations even play 24-hour marathons of the film.

So what's the Canadian connection? A Christmas Story was mostly filmed around Cleveland, Ohio, but not all of it. The school scenes were filmed in St. Catharines, Ontario, while the tree-purchasing scene was filmed in Toronto. The interior of Ralphie Parker's home was filmed on sound stage in T-Dot, while the famous "I didn't say fudge" scene was filmed on Cherry Street in Toronto.

This year, STC is taking the movie off the big screen, giving the 1983 flick directed by John McHenry a new life at the Sudbury Theatre Centre Dec. 7 - 23.

Feel like a kid again or share a Christmas tradition with someone you love. This nostalgic classic plays evenings at 7:30 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

The Pay-What-You-Can relaxed performance Sunday, Dec. 17 is followed with a special visit from Santa.
