The devastation of Fort McMurray's wildfires has hit home for rock and roll quartet Sentimental Gentlemen during their current cross Canada tour in support of their new album 'The Devil's In The Details'.
The Fort McMurray-based band is currently at the halfway point of their tour and has decided to stay on track and keep performing across Canada and do what they do best, playing in front crowds across the country and use the tour to help raise funds for their hometown.
Sentimental Gentlemen will be playing the Townehouse Tavern in Sudbury on May 26.
"Since the day we found out our hometown of Fort McMurray was on fire and our friends and family evacuated, we have gotten an outpour of support from people and venues all across the country wanting to help out,” said vocalist and guitarist Mackenzie Walas.
“It turns out that thankfully all of our friends and family are safe and our homes are still standing. That being said we lost a bunch of musical equipment and instruments that we were keeping at our friend’s house that burnt down.
Walas says that there was never any thought of canceling or postponing the tour, but to instead use it as an opportunity to be a voice for the community while on the road.
“We feel like we have a new mission and purpose to help in a unique way to give back to the community that has given us so much,” said Walas.
“If anyone wants to help we encourage everyone to donate what they can to the Canadian Red Cross."
