Up Here 4 is well underway, but with programming that extends until Sunday night, there’s still plenty of fun to be had.
Sudbury’s urban art and music festival taking place downtown this weekend has shut down part of Durham Street, taken over several venues in the area, and has even coopted Memorial Park for the day.
Friday night offered festival goers Up Here’s signature blend of broadly varying performances spanning local powerpop by Tommy and the Commies (their official album launch!), hip-hop from Toronto’s The Sorority, a pop-up show by Random Recipe, and a viola performance by Sioux Lookout’s Melody McKiver.
Saturday afternoon, there was a free Family Day with events in Memorial Park and Durham Street until 4 p.m., complete with non-stop performances and DJs all day.
Last night’s performances were just as exciting as the first’s with a main concert at The Grand at 8 p.m. by Jeremy Dutcher, followed by The Blood and Glass Quartet, and then Patrick Watson. Late-night shows at The Townehouse by Hamilton punks TV Freaks, and some dance-y tunes at Little Montreal, kept the party going.
On Sunday, make sure you’re downtown at the geodesic dome they have set up on Durham Street for 12:30 p.m. or risk missing out on a magic mystery tour they have planned. They won’t be waiting around for stragglers!
There will be a closing concert at The Grand on Sunday at 8 p.m., and a final late-night show at The Townehouse.
If you can’t make it to the festival, or if you’re just taking a break, check out this playlist that features just a handful of performers playing this year’s festival.
Individual tickets and passports are available through their app or onsite throughout.
