Here's your Sudbury guide to Culture Days

Event starts Friday with town hall meeting on the future of the arts

If you'd like to take part in Culture Days this weekend, there's plenty to do locally.

Culture Days, which takes place Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, features events that are open to the public and free of charge, promoting all activities that enrich our lives.

Friday, Sept. 30

5-6:30 p.m. Official opening for the Culture Days weekend at the Open Studio 93 Cedar Street (third floor) to be followed by an Arts Future Focus Forum – Town Hall featuring a presentation on Arts Education by Dr. David Robinson of Laurentian University and an opportunity for individual artists to contribute their views on what would help develop their talents. There will be time to discuss possible future uses for the present Sudbury arena if a new facility is to be built.

7-9 p.m. Mixed media installation and performance “BrokeDownTown by the Crestfallen Theatre Group will take place at a well know downtown location. Information on how to obtain free tickets on the Sudbury activities page of the Culture Days website.

Saturday, Oct. 1

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Various artists and mediums at Applecart Collectables, 280 Larch Street.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Artists in Action Show at the Walden Arena (Tom Davies Community Centre), Lively

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Five Artists, Five Views – Warehouse Studio, 338 John Street 
 
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Open Studio behind the scenes exhibition, 93 Cedar Street (third floor)

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. “City of Light” New Paris Photos, 122 Durham Street – Studio 205

12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Stained Glass exhibition and Demonstration, 2354 Long Lake Road Sudbury

12.30 p.m. to 2 p.m. The Violet Hour Magazine Issue Launch and Open Mic, Library, 74 McKenzie St.

2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Roger Nash ZigSags Book Launch and Signing, Library, 74 McKenzie Street

2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sudbury Youth Choir Performance at Sudbury Secondary School, 154 College Street

3:30 p.m to 4 p.m. Complimentary back stage tour at Sudbury Theatre Centre for general public – no need to register, 170 Shaughnessy Street

2 to 4 p.m. Glass Lead and Oil – Sudbury’s past and present depicted in new traditional stained glass work by Wolfgang Suppan and  demonstration and discussion of commission art work  by professional multimedia artists Monique Legault, Barry historical property, 1546 Bellevue Ave. Sudbury.
