The Laurentian University Choir and the Sudbury Studio Singers present their spring concert March 9. The event takes place starting at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's Place on Larch Street.

The groups will be singing the Mozart's Requiem and Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. These two works have gained a place not only as masterworks in the classical realm but also as icons in the world of popular culture.

The music from both of them has been quoted dozens of times in movies, movie trailers, commercials, live TV, and TV series and specials to the extent that audience members will all recognize portions of each.

Soloists joining the choir will include Soprano Natasha Campbell, Mezzo-Soprano Kathleen Promane, Tenor Michael McBride, and Baritone Joshua Hendricksen.

Campbell, who is from Waterloo, previously sang the soprano role in Carmina in Sudbury some years back.

Recent performance credits for her include being asked to sing by Malcolm Gladwell for his podcast “The King of Tears” from his Revisionist History series, one of the most popular podcasts on the internet.

Both Promane and McBride are well known to Sudbury audiences. Promane will be remembered for her stunning performance as the Witch of Endor at last year’s concert.

Hendricksen is from Regina and will delight audiences with his engaging and energized singing.

Accompaniment for the works will be provided by Jan Overduin on the pipe organ and duo pianists Charlene Biggs and Nathan Nykor, joined by percussion captained by Jack Broumpton.

Advance tickets are available at Vrab's Your Independent Grocer and Jett-Landry Music or by emailing [email protected]. General admission is $20, with students and seniors getting in for $15.
