The world of the arts can be a pretentious place. You know it, we know it, artists know it. And in 2017, writer-director Ruben Östlund dove head first into that world for his film The Square.
Set in Stockholm, Sweden, the film follows Christian, the pretentious and slightly clueless curator of a prestigious museum, and his efforts to mount a controversial exhibit, involving (as you may have guessed) the shape of a simple square.
The film both celebrates the eccentricity and creativity (and necessity) of the art world, while pillorying its most obvious foibles. The Square claimed the coveted Palme D'Or at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.
Now, the Sudbury Downtown Indie Cinema Co-op is bringing this hilarious send up of art, artists and assorted hangers-on to the Nickel City on March 1, as part of a fundraising event to help the co-op in its mission to bring the best of global independent cinema to Greater Sudbury.
The film screens at the McEwen School of Architecture that day. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Of course, you can always try your luck at winning free tickets to the entire fundraising evening. Sudbury.com has partnered with the Sudbury Indie Cinema Co-op to give away one pair of tickets and one single ticket to the performance.
We want you to put in a little bit of work though to win, so we're having a photo contest.

We're going to draw two winners randomly from the photos we receive on Feb. 26. That gives you a little more than a week to get it together.*
