Find out what's going up on the big screen when the Sudbury Drive-In releases its first lineup of films tonight on its Facebook page.
The drive-in is a summer project by a trio of Greater Sudbury teens — Katie Yao, Aiden Best and Ben MacKenzie.
In launching the project, the teens received a grant from the provincial Summer Company Program, which gives start-up money to students who want to create their own summer jobs.
Yao, a Grade 11 Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School student, said she got the idea because until she was seven years old, she lived in the small town of Flin Flon, Man., which has its own drive-in theatre.
“I was just looking through pictures and saw the drive-in,” she said. “I said 'Wow,that would be something that would be awesome for Sudbury.' ”
The drive-in will be located in The Home Depot parking lot at 1500 Marcus Drive, the group said on its Facebook page.
Films will be shown July 16, July 30, August 13 and Aug. 27. Each showing will feature a family friendly film alongside a film more appropriate for an older audience. Showtimes are 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.
It will cost you $8 to see just one film or $12 for both. A car load (maximum five people) will run you $35.
