The latest Graphic-Con news: Bring on the cosplayers!

Slagged Alliance, Oi Cosplay and Tramautic Candy will be there

It may be the Year of the Villain at Graphic-Con 2017 in June, but there will be some heroic cosplayers on hand too.

Comic books, anime, sci-fi, cosplay and more will take over the Sudbury Arena on June 10 as Graphic-Con returns.

Of course, those who attend the con are welcome and encouraged to put their creativity on display by attending in costume.

But Graphic-Con has also invited some talented travelling cosplayers to be on hand for this celebration of nerdiness.

The Slagged Alliance — Chris Bisson (Voidshift Creations), Brittany Marie (Toxik Fox), Pat Ryan (Burnt Circuits Props and Cosplay), Marina Harte (Whale Owl Be Damned), Dave Woodley, Eric Chappell (Zin's Designs) — will be on hand for the event.

Streamer, larper and cosplayer, Traumatic Candy makes her first con guest appearance anywhere at Graphic-Con this year. The 21-year-old from the GTA cosplays everything from violent, bloody video games to children's cartoons.

Oi! Cosplay, a group of friends who've been cosplaying for more than five years, will also be a special guest this year, bringing love of anime, comic books, movies and video games to the Nickel City, hoping to inspire others to take up the cosplay mantle.

Besides the cosplayers, Graphic-Con welcomes a replica of Herbie the Love Bug this year, thanks to support from Sudbury Auto Glass. Don't remember Herbie? The 1963 Volkswagen Beetle with a mind all its own starred in several Disney pictures starting with 1968's "The Love Bug." Get your picture with Herbie!

Tickets for Graphic-Con 2017 are now on sale. Tickets are $5 and free for children under the age of 12.

Purchase them online at graphiccon.com (additional fees apply) or at the Sudbury Arena Box Office. Graphic-Con 2017 offers more than eight hours of panels, workshops, scheduled games, art, a stage with pop culture events, a costume contest and more — all included in the price of admission.

For a little 1980s nostalgia, Graphic-Con will be a stop on the Degrassi Tour this year.

"We’re excited to announce Stacie Mistysyn also known as Degrassi's Caitlin Ryan, and Kirsten Bourne known as Tessa Campanelli will be joining us as guests of honor for Graphic-Con 2017," said a release from Graphic-Con organizers.

Graphic-Con is a non-profit event hosted annually by The Greater Sudbury Public Library and Launchpad Creative. The event aims to inspire fans of art, literacy, and history through comic books, anime, and other cultural mediums.
