Video: Cardboard Ryan Reynolds is back in Sudbury

Sudburians pose with Cardboard Ryan Reynolds to promote Nat'l Canadian Film Day

In honour of National Canadian Film Day, Sudbury.com constructed a new cardboard cutout of Ryan Reynolds. ‘The Captive,’ a film starring Reynolds that was directed by Atom Egoyan and filmed in Greater Sudbury, will be screened tomorrow at Sudbury Theatre Centre.

Don’t remember Cardboard Ryan? Well, back in 2013 when the Canadian actor and star of “Deadpool” was in the city filming “The Captive” with Atom Egoyan, we tried unsuccessfully to get an interview with Reynolds.

Rather than give up hope, videographer Heather Green-Oliver, a diehard Reynolds fan, created a life-size cardboard cutout of the actor, and we had great fun taking him around the city and inviting people to have their photos taken and share them on social media.

Tomorrow, “The Captive” along with director Denis Villeneuve’s “Incendie” are screening in Sudbury for National Canadian Film Day, organized locally by the Sudbury Indie Cinema Co-op.

But, since Reynolds won’t be back in Sudbury for the April 20 screening of “The Captive” (Egoyan will be Skyping at the screening, though, and “Incendie” star Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin will be on hand), we decided to create a new Cardboard Ryan!

And he'll be available for selfies (and kisses) prior to the film's screening at STC at 7 p.m.

If you want Cardboard Ryan to pay you a visit, tweet to the hashtag #CardboardRyanReynolds, email [email protected], or comment below the story.
