Sudbury native Justine Giles has been named the Northern Ontario finalist in the top 25 in the Searchlight contest, a CBC Music competition to find Canada's next big music act.

She beat out 10 other acts from Northern Ontario to be named a finalist in the competition, including three others from Greater Sudbury — Tofino, Lisa Marie Naponse and Freudz Couch.

“I'm still kind of in shock,” Giles said on Twitter. “So proud to represent my hometown, northern region & nation. Blessed.”

Celebrity judges will now select three acts from the top 25 to advance, who, along with one popular vote act, will comprise the final four.

Giles entered her song, “Unspoken,” in the contest. If you'd like to listen to the song and vote for Giles, click here.
