Hospital computer virus: Electronic medical records, medical imaging systems revived at HSN
Health Sciences North (HSN) announced through Twitter Sunday that the hospital has regained full access to its electronic medical records and medical imaging systems. This welcome development comes after a four-day struggle to eliminate the computer virus disrupting programs and causing longer wait times in the emergency department at HSN, and affecting 24 other hospitals in northeastern Ontario. Firefighters brave bitter cold to fight Wahnapitae house fire
At 7:25 p.m Saturday evening, the Greater Sudbury Fire department responded to a house fire on Jumbo Road in Wahnapitae. Two individuals were evacuted from the residence without injuries, with one sent to hospital on unrelated concerns. The estimated cost of damage to the home is upwards of $185,000. Sudbury resident charged with robbery
Greater Sudbury Police reported through Twitter that a taxi driver had been assaulted on Paris St. at approximately 4 a.m. yesterday morning. The driver suffered minor injuries and had his taxi stolen in the confrontation. For more details, visit Sudbury.com.
Driver caught doing 43 km/h over the speed limit
At 9:14 p.m. Friday night, OPP North East tweeted that Sudbury OPP's Traffic Incident Management Efficiency team members had caught a driver travelling 43 km over the speed limit. The vehicle was spotted on Hwy 17 near Hagar, travelling at a speed of 113 km/h in a posted 70 km/h zone. For more details, visit Sudbury.com.
Photos: Extreme temperatures cancel OCup race at Walden Cross Country
The Walden Cross Country Fitness Club was forced to cancel their hosting of the Ontario Cup (OCup) Series this weekend, due to dangerously low temperatures. Due to concerns for the health and safety of participants, a cross-country ski race cannot be held when temperatures drop below - 20 C, said race secretary Brenda Parks. Canada decides against appealing landmark annuities case, chief says
The Canadian government has decided against appealing last month's Superior Court ruling that 21 Anishinabek nations were short-changed on annuity payments for more than a century, Batchewana First Nation Chief Dean Sayers said Saturday. Wolves fall to Knights at the Sudbury Arena
The Sudbury Wolves hosted the high-flying London Knights Friday, who currently sit second in the league with 63 points. The pack gave it their all, outshooting the Knights 36-30 and keeping the score within one goal throughout the entire game, but eventually fell to a 5-3 final.
