A helping hand in Hanmer

Roger Lauriaule hadn’t planned on spending five hours of his Saturday plowing the driveways of strangers, but he got himself into that mess and he was going to get himself out.  To the surprise of many on the Greater Sudbury Valley East Facebook page, this past Saturday Hanmer Resident Lauriaule volunteered his time to his “time and plow to anyone who need[ed] help with their driveway.” The act appeared unmotivated and was a welcome change to the negativity Lauriaule claims to dominate the public forum. Family Day in the Valley

This might be the third time Linette Filippini has organized Family Fun Day on behalf of the Valley East Community Action Network, but we bet it won’t be her last. On Monday, Filippini and her dedicated team of volunteers welcomed more than 500 people to the Centennial Arena for a full day of free, family-centered fun. A giant inflatable obstacle course marked the entrance of the event, which offered a variety of free family entertainment including ice skating and photo booth. The convoy, comprised of over five kilometres of 80-90 ‘big-rig’ trucks by the point of Sudbury, was led by co-founder Glen Carritt and his autographed OP Fire and Safety Company fire truck. “We’re a great nation and we’re going to take it back,” said Carritt, surrounded by a crowd who share his opposition to Bill C69, Bill C48 and the Carbon Tax.
