Missing teen was last seen Feb. 14 downtown
Greater Sudbury Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a missing 17-year-old boy. He was last seen Feb. 14 at 11:30 a.m. on Cedar Street in downtown Sudbury. He is 5-foot-9, weighs about 170 pounds, with medium length brown hair and brown eyes. The teen was last seen wearing a black coat, red hoodie, black pants and brown shoes. Alleged liquor thief caught red-handed
A 28-year-old man faces theft charges after he was arrested Feb. 14 for allegedly stealing alcohol from several LCBO locations in Greater Sudbury, said Greater Sudbury Police Service. Police said at around 2 p.m. on Feb. 14, the suspect entered an LCBO in New Sudbury and filled a shopping bag with multiple 40-ounce and 60-ounce bottles of alcohol. He then left the store without paying for the items. He is charged with six counts of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime. Find out more online, at Sudbury.com.
Team effort brings Wolves back to the win column
The Sudbury Wolves wasted no time returning to the win column, claiming a 5-4 victory over the Niagara IceDogs on day one of their two-day road trip. Wolves goal scorers were Shane Bulitka, Adam Ruzicka, Owen Robinson, Nolan Hutcheson and Macauley Carson in this exciting match up between two Central Division leaders. Growing community involvement at the third annual Volunteer Fair
Community warriors of all ages flocked to the New Sudbury Centre this past Saturday, eager to see the opportunity awarded at Volunteer Sudbury's third annual Volunteer Fair. The fair featured 18 booths of non-profit and for-profit businesses, as well as community organizations looking to add fresh faces to their existing team of volunteers. In addition to growing awareness for these invaluable community services, the hosts and staff of these community services had the rare opportunity to engage with potential applicants. A helping hand in Hanmer
Roger Lauriaule hadn’t planned on spending five hours of his Saturday plowing the driveways of strangers, but he got himself into that mess and he was going to get himself out. To the surprise of many on the Greater Sudbury Valley East Facebook page, this past Saturday Hanmer Resident Lauriaule volunteered his time to his “time and plow to anyone who need[ed] help with their driveway.” The act appeared unmotivated and was a welcome change to the negativity Lauriaule claims to dominate the public forum. Family Day in the Valley
This might be the third time Linette Filippini has organized Family Fun Day on behalf of the Valley East Community Action Network, but we bet it won’t be her last. On Monday, Filippini and her dedicated team of volunteers welcomed more than 500 people to the Centennial Arena for a full day of free, family-centered fun. A giant inflatable obstacle course marked the entrance of the event, which offered a variety of free family entertainment including ice skating and photo booth. United We Roll
In a burst of steam and flurry of pebbles, the United We Roll convoy arrived in Greater Sudbury Monday afternoon to a crowd more than 50 strong. The convoy, comprised of over five kilometres of 80-90 ‘big-rig’ trucks by the point of Sudbury, was led by co-founder Glen Carritt and his autographed OP Fire and Safety Company fire truck. “We’re a great nation and we’re going to take it back,” said Carritt, surrounded by a crowd who share his opposition to Bill C69, Bill C48 and the Carbon Tax. Increased cloudiness moving into Tuesday evening and a low of -19 C. The evening wind chill of -17 C is expected to drop to -24 C overnight.
