Weather

Monday is expected to be mainly cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of flurries. The afternoon high of -5 C will feel more like -13 C due to 20-40 km/h winds from the northwest. Skies will clear and winds will lessen by the evening, producing a low of -15 C. Bring out that extra blanket because we will be feeling an overnight low of -19 C.

AOK: 12 days of kindness

I hope you have your tissues ready because at 7 a.m this morning, we will be releasing another heartwarming 12 Days of Kindness video. Every morning until Dec. 21, Sudbury.com will share a video in which one deserving Sudburian is rewarded by members of the community with an Act Of Kindness (AOK). Last week we warmed up the holidays for Robin Dallaire and provided some much needed R&R for Wendy Major. Search continues: Branden Bodson-Gratton remains missing as GSPS, OPP continue efforts to find him

On Dec. 15, the Ontario Provincial Police helicopter joined Greater Sudbury Police ground efforts this weekend in the search for Branden Bodson-Gratton. After 13 days, the whereabouts of the 25-year-old Sudbury man remain unknown. If you've seen him or have information concerning his whereabouts, police and Bodson-Gratton's family urge you to contact authorities. Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive Wrap-Up

On Wednesday Dec. 19, the Sudbury Food Bank will announce the final quantity of food items collected for the annual Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. "The Sudbury Food Bank would like to thank all the businesses and members of the community that donated to the Edgar Burton Food Drive," said Mellaney Dahl, President of the Sudbury Food Bank. Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival

At 10 a.m. this morning, the Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival will launch their 20th season by announcing their 2019 Charity of Choice. In the past 19 years, the Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival has contributed more than $1.7 million to various charitable organizations within the community. Last year alone, the organization was able to raise $100,000 for the Sudbury Hospice Foundation's Stand by Me capital campaign in support of Maison McCulloch Hospice. A Christmas dinner for 132 Sudbury families

Ecole St-Joseph gymnasium was filled with laughter Saturday, Dec. 15, as Club Richelieu Les Patriotes, their families and their friends joined together for their annual Christmas basket distribution.For more than 30 years, Club Richelieu Les Patriotes have been preparing baskets which include ham, tortiere, vegetables, canned goods and more, this year in support of 132 Sudbury families. Find out more about this incredible annual fundraiser by visiting Sudbury.com. 

Municipal budgets too complex: Lakehead prof

A report released Wednesday by Livio Di Matteo, professor of economics at Lakehead University, looked at how much municipalities in Ontario spend on non-frontline staff. Greater Sudbury ranked third highest, at about $145 per $100,000 in tax revenue, out of the 28 cities in the report. By comparison, Sault Ste. Marie was second highest at about $180, while North Bay was 10th in the survey, coming in at around $90. Timmins had the lowest in the North, at around $60. GSU warns of phone scam in Sudbury

The company @home Energy has had multiple reports from customers who have received a phone call from a company claiming to be their current water heater rental provider, Greater Sudbury Utilities said in a news release Friday. “If you receive a call similar to this, do NOT give out any information,” the release said. “Report the phone call to the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or contact your local police department.” Read the full story online at Sudbury.com.

Wolves claim 12th win to tie franchise record

Guests of the annual Teddy Bear Toss game erupted in cheers last night, as the Wolves claimed their twelfth win to tie the franchise record for longest home-ice win streak. Quinton Byfield, Cole Candella, David Levin, Jack Thompson and Liam Ross all had multi-point games to help the pack secure a 5-2 victory over the Kitchener Rangers. Byfield, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Shane Bulitka earned first, second and third starts respectively, with final shots on goal 29-28 in favour of Kitchener. Sudbury Five get struck by Lightning, but it's a tight one

Earning their sixth victory against the KW Titans Thursday, the Five returned home to welcome the London Lighting on their first visit to the Sudbury Arena since the franchise's inaugural home opener. Releford led all Five players in scoring with 24 points, while Bland finished with 22 of his own. Dixon finished the game with 17 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. In the end, missed rebounds by the Five cost them a 120-117 loss against the London Lightning.
