Youths aged 12 and older in the Sudbury District are being called up for their COVID-19 vaccines with appointments now available for the weeks of June 14 and June 21, said Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD).

The PHSD vaccination eligibility webpage said that the effort is now underway as part of a provincewide plan to provide vaccines to the younger age group, youth aged 12 to 17 before the start of the new school year.

"We are working with area school boards, First Nations, and urban Indigenous partners to schedule special COVID-19 vaccine clinics for youth and families," said PHSD.

"Youth aged 12 and over can receive their vaccine the weeks of June 14 and 21 at dedicated clinics. Youth must be at least 12 years old on the date of vaccination. The clinics are for first dose vaccine only; second doses will be scheduled starting in August. There are two dedicated youth-focused options available to receive your vaccine, including (1) dedicated daytime school-based blocks at mass vaccination clinics, (2) dedicated youth and family-focused mass vaccination clinics," said PHSD. Also, vaccination options for youth identified as exceptional and/or require accommodation(s) can also be discussed.

Youth under the age of 18 will be given the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine which has been approved for youths aged 12 and older, by Health Canada.

PHSD outlined the following clinics would be taking place next week, and the booking of appointments for youth clinics would begin at 12 p.m. noon on Wednesday June 9 at this link:
