The evolution of the workplace is an ongoing process. It is never static. The nature of work and the skills required are in a constant state of flux.

According to a report from the World Economic Forum (WEF), there are four in-demand skills that the jobs of the future are going to require: artificial intelligence, cloud computing, product management and social media.

Using data from a report by the Burning Glass Institute, which partnered with the Business-Higher Education Forum (BHEF) and education publisher Wiley on the research, the WEF points to an analysis of 228 million job postings that found those four skills were highlighted in one in eight job ads.

You might not have those skills now, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be learned, and learning them provides those who have them with more job opportunities and the power to command higher salaries.

The WEF report also finds that artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), cloud computing, social media and product management are useful skills in a variety of industries, from cybersecurity to creative design, health information management to scripting languages.

While demand for these skills is on the ascendancy, digital skills that were once as disruptive as these new ones have become traditional and are beginning to decline. The WEF report said once in-demand skills like web design and website development are less and less required.
