Congratulations for another successful
edition of the Community Builders Awards of Excellence. The
board of directors and staff of Cinéfest Sudbury are deeply
honoured our festival has been given this distinction in the
arts category.
I've been thinking about what it means to win
a Community Builders Award. In Cinéfest's case, it beautifully
illustrates a symbiotic relationship. The people of this
community created our festival, and it in turn builds the
community by enhancing the quality of life for its residents. A
celebration of Cinéfest is, in itself, a celebration of our
community.
Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival
is a truly northern success story. Throughout its 18-year
history, its leaders have all been native Sudburians, and its
greatest supporters - the volunteers, audience, donors, and
sponsors - are primarily people who make this corner of the
world home. I'm thrilled to say more than ever before, the
films we are privileged to screen have been shot in the north,
or created by northerners.
Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to all
those who made the time to submit a nomination, serve as a
judge, or become a sponsor.
We are grateful to Laurentian Media Group for
being the spark that ignites the Community Builders Awards, and
for acknowledging the fact the arts are an integral part of a
vibrant community.
