Act of kindness paid forward

Reader says there are still lots of kind people in the world

Letter writer Gaston Bouchard was the recipient of a random act of kindess, and kept the kindness going with a donation to Maison Vale Hospice. File photo.

I wanted to share a personal experience while shopping with my mother at Walmart in the South End.

My mother was recently diagnosed with terminal lung and brain cancer and is unable to transfer without a wheelchair. After an hour of shopping with my parents and siblings, I returned to my vehicle with my mother.

After I lifted her up from her wheelchair and into the vehicle, I prepared the wheelchair to put into the box of the truck. A kind woman driving a black SUV pulled up behind my vehicle and shouted out to me that she liked my T-shirt and that she was a Green Bay Packer's fan as well, and had a logo of the team on the back window of her SUV.

She then ask me if the woman that I picked up from the wheelchair was my mother. I replied yes. She then stated how she was inspired and how impressed she was for the way I was caring for my mom. I thank her and smiled, and then she took her arm out and offered me a $20 bill as an act of kindness.

I certainly did not know what to say or do because I only do thing for my mom because I love her. I want to acknowledge her gesture and thank her. I told her that I would carry her act of kindness forward. I wanted to let her know that I am humbled by her action, and since my mother is a patient at the Maison Vale Hospice, I just donated the money into the lunch money pot.

I must say, despite all of the chaos in this world, there is still a lot of kind individuals among us.
