Futures on hold - Brigitte Labby

I agree with Thomas Duncan's comments in the Oct. 14 issue regarding his difficulties finding employment. I was born here, moved out west with my parents and brother in 1980. My father worked in the gas refinery industry in Alberta.

I agree with Thomas Duncan's comments in the Oct. 14 issue regarding his difficulties finding employment. I was born here, moved out west with my parents and brother in 1980. My father worked in the gas refinery industry in Alberta. Work was easily obtainable. We had a pretty good life; we travelled and thrived.

I enjoyed my life out west. I worked for the city as a bylaw officer. I returned to Sudbury in 1997 with my daughter. I returned to school. I currently have three diplomas: animal sciences, computer and business, travel and tourism, and in 2006 I will be an educational assistant graduate. I have a diverse work experience background. I speak fluent French and English.

I too have applied for the city. No phone calls, no interviews. I have had interviews with local corporations. However there are usually numerous candidates being interviewed. Many of them are internal. Why even bother interviewing external candidates, if internal applicants will be getting the job.
Today, I work as a youth educator, on a casual basis. I love teaching, my goals to eventually work full time. Thank goodness for subsidized housing. I will most likely be relocating elsewhere.
