On Nov. 17, the Sudbury Hospice Foundation held its annual Fundraising Gala with proceeds going to Maison Vale Hospice.

The Enchanted Evening was held at the Caruso Club, where guests enjoyed ballet performances by Happiness Is Dancing, a family-style dinner, singers from Theatre Cambrian, as well as a live and silent auction. The fundraising event welcomed close to 400 guests to share stories, express gratitude and raise money for the hospice.

Event organizers and committee members are pleased to announce that the proceeds totaled $80,000. These funds were raised through ticket sales, generous donations and sponsorship, a silent auction, a chocolate blitz, centre-piece sales, as well as a live auction led by board chair, Gerry Lougheed Jr.

During the evening, Léo Lefebvre was presented as honorary chair for his ongoing dedication and commitment to Maison Vale Hospice. A special tribute was paid in commemoration to Christine Spencer, a former registered nurse and mentor at the hospice, who recently passed away there.

Barb Ballantyne received the chair’s award for her role in the development and advancement of hospice palliative care. RBC received the chair’s award for a community partner dedicated to supporting the hospice and its families. Scott McCulloch, president of Cambrian Ford (title sponsor) also took to the stage to share his personal journey with the hospice and encouraged guests to donate generously throughout the evening.

On behalf of the board of directors, staff, volunteers, clients and residents, and families of the hospice, we would like to recognize the many event sponsors including: Cambrian Ford, Bella Flora, Yallowega Bélanger Salach Architecture, The Car Lot, Lougheed’s Funeral Home, Marja Ivarsson, Milman, Sudbury Credit Union, Don Richer Photography, CTV, KIA Sudbury Motors, Northern Life, P&M’s Kouzzina, Pete’s Rental, Pharmacie Noëlville Pharmacy, RBC, Rewind 103.9 FM.

Also, we extend our sincerest gratitude to our volunteers and organizing committee, with a special mention to gala chair, Bev Brisco. It’s thanks to all our volunteers that the gala was such a success.
