Letter: Conduct from some politicians on KED questionable

Something is very wrong with the process, says reader

I am all for properly processed, consultative, affordable and legally sanctioned commercial and industrial development.

That’s not the issue.

However, as with many concerned residents, I have been following the acrimonious debate on the Kingsway Entertainment Development (KED), and there is irrefutable logic and common sense in the recent letter to the editor by James Curry.

It makes absolutely no sense that council is bulldozing opposition and going ahead with a project that may be illegal, a project that the taxpayer-funded PWC Report advised against, a project that went against the city’s own master plan and, very puzzling, private land is being prepared at taxpayers’ expense, despite appeal hearings scheduled to review the project.

Mr. Curry is absolutely right, the smell emanating from this project is worse than the smell coming from the dump next door.

The conduct exhibited by some involved politicians and others also concerns me; the vehemence, anger, fury, rage, petulance and the urge to mow down anyone who dares to have a contrary opinion or an embarrassing question about the project.

What the heck is going on here? Why are they taking it so personally?

This is definitely not how a city should be run or how large construction projects are properly done.

Something is very wrong, and hopefully a new council, or a successful appeal, will make it right.
