Editor's note: The following letter is in response to the letter, "Councillors clear up confusion on Elgin Greenway project."

Thank you Coun. Fern Cormier for clarifying details regarding the Elgin Greenway.

I applaud city council for reducing this project in both cost and size because by doing so it became a more environmentally friendly place with less hardscape and more softscape. This extra vegetation makes it more aesthetically pleasing, and it helps clean up our air.

Kudos to city council for having the vision to continue to grow Sudbury into a friendlier, healthier place we can all be proud of and benefit from. Whether it is the Jim Gordon Boardwalk, the Elgin Greenway or the many walking paths throughout our entire region, these types of projects are good for business, and good for our physical, mental and social health.

Most importantly in this time of climate crisis, the more we walk, the more we bike, the less CO2 we pump into the air. The less CO2 in our atmosphere, the greater the chances of mitigating the worst consequences of climate change. The more stable our world, the more economical and enjoyable life is.

I say that is one fine package deal.
