We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.

I wish to thank my relatives, friends, neighbours, business people  and the service clubs of Valley East for supporting me in my 19th Dystonia Walkathon on June 9.

It is a cause very close to my heart. Your thoughtfulness and generosity tugs on the strings of my heart. Words can’t convey my attitude of gratitude for being so kind. Thank you! Thank You!  When you give cheerfully and accept gracefully, everyone is blessed.

With all your help, I raised a total of 13,389 for research into this debilitating disorder. We must find the time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives. Thank you once again for helping "that someone." You never cease to amaze me. Without your help I could never reach this amount. It takes people like you to give hope to those who are afflicted by this disorder.

Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder that causes muscles to pull or spasm. It can be very painful and debilitating. It can affect your eyes, neck, jaw, speech, hands, and limbs. There is yet no cure. There are some drug treatments, Botox injections help and in severe cases there is deep brain stimulation surgery. Hence, the importance for research.

Thanking you kindly

Dwayne Backer
