Letter: Fibromyalgia support group will meet no longer

Many tears have been shed, in laughter and in sadness

It is with a heavy heart that I must advise you that the Sudbury Fibromyalgia Support Group will no longer be meeting, effective Dec. 13, 2017.

We've enjoyed being an active part of the Sudbury community. First and foremost, Sudbury has been a place for people to come gain support from people who share the day-to-day struggle of Fibromyalgia. Our experience truly has shown that this condition doesn't discriminate between age, gender or social standing.

Rather than being a venue for misery to enjoy company, over the years, Sudbury's Fibromyalgia Support Group has enjoyed also being a place for people to come, laugh, learn and enjoy each others' company. We've endeavoured to make our bi-monthly meetings an opportunity to shed as many, if not more, tears of laughter rather than sadness.

We have also enjoyed the support of the community with our annual International Fibromyalgia Awareness Day Extravaganza (IFADE). It has taken many forms over the five years IFADE has run, but one constant has been the support of the Sudbury community which has made it a success year after year.

Unfortunately, flagging interest in the group and the fatigue of its co-ordinator have resulted in the decision to discontinue the group. We thank you for your support and the support of the community at large.

Janet Lewis
Co-ordinator, Sudbury Fibromyalgia Support Group
