Tom Fortin is apologizing for commenting that there is "no need to four lane MR35". Fortin says he "fully supports" the initiative and believes it should proceed. (File)

During a media conference held on March 13, while discussing the release of Kingsway Entertainment District Financial Impact Report authored by urbanMetrics, I cited a finding that “The Kingsway   Entertainment District would jeopardize the city’s planned large transformational projects”.

In some of my statements I may have given the impression I do not support these important projects. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Although I expressed concern that The Kingsway Entertainment District, as currently envisioned, may have impacts on these projects, it was definitely not my intention to discount the efforts of many hard-working volunteers in this community advocating for these projects. In fact, I fully support the initiatives.

Specifically, I commented that there might be no need to four lane of a section MR35 with the lower traffic volumes as a result of moving the OLG Slots from Chelmsford. Regardless of the loss of the Slots in Chelmsford, this project is a matter of public safety and I firmly believe should proceed.

To the citizens of ward 3 and 4, the 17,000 people who use this highway everyday, and the advocates of the other large transformational projects, I apologize.
