It is unclear to me why people who support Laurentian University are upset by the fact that neither the provincial nor the federal governments have provided funds to save it.
The brief answer is that, at this point in time, they cannot. Based on Laurentian's CCAA protection, any money provided to the university would be swallowed by creditors.
Once the appropriate restructuring occurs and Laurentian University is not protected by CCAA, I expect that both the provincial and federal governments will step up because the money provided to the university will go to supporting Laurentian and not creditors.
