Letter: Indigenous men murdered at an alarming rate, but no inquiry?

Reader wonders why such a lack of 'Lack of concern' about issue

Letter-writer Simon Guillet is concerned the high homicide rate among aboriginal men is getting no attention from upper levels of government. File photo.
I understand why the Liberal government has decided to hold a federal inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women.

What I don't understand is the lack of concern or attention by the government and the media to the fact that the rate of homicides among Indigenous men is about three times the rate of homicides for Indigenous women.

According to Maclean's Magazine, the homicide rate for Indigenous women is 3.6 per 100,000 population, compared to an appalling 10.8 homicides per 100,000 for Indigenous men.

Why has the government and the media not addressed nor even discussed this startling statistic?
