Letter: Is consistent garbage pickup too much to ask for?

Garbage trucks seem to lose all concept of time in the summer

I live in Minnow Lake, near the Civic Cemetery.

On the advice of the city, I do not put my garbage out at night, to avoid attracting bears.

Last week, I put my garbage out at 7:30 a.m., but apparently that was too late; the garbage truck had already passed. By the time the recycling truck came by, nearly seven hours later, I gave up waiting and brought my garbage back to the house.

This week, I set an alarm, and got the garbage out at 6:30 a.m. The truck did not come by until after 9 a.m. The week before, the truck did not arrive until after 9:30 a.m.

I am a stay-at-home mom with two small children, one of whom does not consistently sleep through the night. Early mornings are very hard for me. I only put out two bags of garbage, I use my green box, and I recycle as much as I can.

I also applied and adhere to the one clear bag of diapers policy from the city. I follow all the rules. Is it too much to ask for a more consistent pick-up time?

In the winter, the garbage sits on my street until well past noon. Suddenly, the warm weather hits, and it seems like the garbage trucks lose all concept of time.

I do my part. All I ask is some form of consistency when it comes to garbage pick-up.
