It was no surprise to hear the mayor (likely his executive assistant) toot his horn on his accomplishments over the past four years.

He is being challenged by a young dynamic success-driven individual and once announced, the mayor no doubt felt it urgent to get his name in the news again.

Full disclosure: I'm part of the new upstart’s team. I am an older member and I understand the need for new ideas, a new way of thinking and a new way of getting things done. For a fresh new start, I'm supporting Cody Cacciotti.

No one on this young man’s team will have anything but kind considerate words about Mayor Bigger. There is no reason to not say he is a fine man and a good man. Mr. Bigger is all those things.

Having said the foregoing, Mayor Bigger’s press release is an indication of why we feel there has to be a better way.

In four years, Mr. Bigger’s claim to re-election is he has increased the city’s capital investment in roads and infrastructure and then names the main spending spree. He lists the downtown Masterplan including La Place des Arts, Tom Davies Square, Brady Street Green Stairs, the Elgin street underpass and Maley Drive and as an afterthought of MR 35 coming along.

The problem with the mayor’s office is obvious from this press release. I see nothing about Coniston, Lively, Chelmsford, Garson, Falconbridge, Copper Cliff or Capreol.

You’re personally a good man, Mr. Bigger, but we need more. We want to be part of and feel part of and receive what is due to us as part of the City of Greater Sudbury.

I might also point out that many of the initiatives claimed as the present mayor’s were started by previous administrations.
