Letter: Le Ledo would have been a great project

‘Le Ledo, together with the Junction Project, would also have made the Elgin Street Greenway possible, finally connecting the downtown businesses, restaurants and bars with our beautiful Bell Park, Ramsey Lake and Science North, a gorgeous improvement for us all and a tourist attraction for sure’

After watching the Jan. 25 council meeting, I feel both angry and frustrated, but also hopeful.  Thankfully, there remain some real leaders sitting around the council table.

However, Ward 11 Coun. Bill Leduc’s attempt to derail years of work and planning by several important community groups is not only an insult to all visionaries of Sudbury, but is also the cause for the loss of much needed financial investment in our community.

Le Ledo Project was a $50-million private investment project that would have contributed to the revitalization of Sudbury. The loss of months of work and negotiations between the investors and the city’s staff have now gone down the drain. It will also predictably discourage other investors who are watching.

Le Ledo, together with the Junction Project, would also have made the Elgin Street Greenway possible, finally connecting the downtown businesses, restaurants and bars with our beautiful Bell Park, Ramsey Lake and Science North, a gorgeous improvement for us all and a tourist attraction for sure.

I hope that this latest attempt to derail what is left of our city’s Official Plan is the last one and that council will use their remaining time to heal our dreadfully divided city.
