I am writing this letter to congratulate Mick Lowe on his new book, "The Raids."
He had my interest from the very first page, as I went down in the “cage” for the first of many times in Garson Mine in May of 1963 as a summer student.
The author’s description of the first experiences underground took me back 51 years to those scary first days.
I enjoyed the description of the sheriff, as I had the pleasure of being a student of Sheriff Lamoureux, and was involved in taking prisoners from Sudbury to Kingston Pen in 1962.
I also enjoyed the descriptions of the Sudbury Court House and would point out to Mr. Lowe that the A court windows face east, not west.
Yesterday, I dropped in on a lawyer who I believe the author had in mind in describing the local agent for the union. He will no doubt soon read the book.
I think all the people who have worked in the mines would enjoy reading this book.
