Letter: Messages of hate have no place in our community

St. Andrew’s United Church disturbed by increasing openly-expressed racism

St. Andrew’s United Church is disturbed by the increasing trend of openly expressed racism both here in Canada and also in the United States.

In the early morning of Oct. 14, posters were mounted in our neighbourhood and on lampposts immediately surrounding our church that were intended to ignite racism and hatred in our community.

We cannot remain silent in the face of this message; we condemn these posters and the hateful message they portray.

In response to this incident, we affirm instead the value of extending love, respect and hospitality to our neighbours. St. Andrew’s United Church is a welcoming, compassionate and inclusive Christian community of faith in downtown Sudbury: messages of hate and exclusion have no place in our community.
