Letter: News anchor should never have mentioned Hitler at Vimy Ridge ceremony

Letter writer sickened just at the mention of his name

I feel compelled to write you concerning the outrageous defence of Adolf Hitler by (CTV National News chief anchor and senior editor) Lisa LaFlamme at the Vimy Ridge memorial service because he ordered his generals not to destroy Canada's memorial to her fallen during the Second World War.

She also mentioned and showed a photo of him visiting the Ridge with his entourage.

Memorandum to Lisa LaFlamme: That doesn't make Hitler a social worker.

She may not realize it, but most children listening will not know anything about Hitler, the Holocaust, the Second World War or occupied France, Poland, etc., etc., where millions died because of this man.

They will remember Hitler only because he didn't destroy our monument at Vimy Ridge. Just hearing Hitler's name spoken at Vimy Ridge made me sick.

Her comments added to a very poor modern take on the sacrifice of so many that was the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
