Letter: Now more than ever, we need to address speeding in our neighborhoods

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, roads need to be safer for kids to be outsideĀ

I am writing to express my concern about the excessive speed limits in residential neighbourhoods in Sudbury.

The speed limit on my street is 50 km/h. Every day, vehicles push this speed limit, and I am worried about the safety of my children and other pedestrians.

Last fall, city council decided to put off speed-limit reductions until the installation of speed cameras. Since the closing of schools, physical distancing requirements and increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic due to Covid-19 restrictions, neighbourhoods need to be safer for kids to be outside now.

I am hopeful city council will implement possible solutions to speeding including seasonal bollard placement, speed bumps, digital speed signs, additional stop signs, and/or reducing speed limits.
